History of R.O.H.A.N.
History of R.O.H.A.N.
Roha, the proud god of the Sun, created the human race in the region of Del Lagos. Drawn together by the brightness of the sun, the humans stood as a noble race of honorable beings, beings Roha wanted to create to worship and praise him as the strongest of the younger gods. They would praise him daily, and remind all of who the strongest of the young gods was. Marea, the kind Goddess of water, created the race of the Elves in the region of Via Marea. With the power of life and healing flowing through their very veins, the Elves were a filled with much of Marea's magical powers. She wanted to create a race with the potential to heal those who got hurt, to limit the suffering in the world. Marea wanted her race to help all the other races of Rohan grow together in harmony and peace.
Ignis, the capricious God of fire, created the Dark Elves in the region of Ignis. He disagreed with Marea's beliefs, and wanted to create a race of magical creatures able to spread throughout the land. He imbued his race with the power of dark magic, so that the Dark Elves would be powerful and able to spread throughout the land of Rohan. Gail, the stubborn God of Earth, agreed with Ignis' idea of creating a powerful race himself, but he disagreed that magic was the way to do it. He instead created the Giants, a race of powerful and huge creatures in the region of Draht. He wanted his race to be as tenacious and strong as himself, and being exceptionally proud of them, placed them in the harshest region of Rohan, knowing they would survive and be strong.
Peace ensued for quite some time. All the races erected countries and capitals, with constant growth due to an abundance of natural resources and a complete lack of war. The Human race continued to grow and praise Roha, with a sect of knights called "Paladins" using Roha's power to spread his word throughout the land. The Elves, realizing their magical potential, focused on developing their magic powers and culture. They created beautiful structures and floating crystals, filling Marea with a sense of joy as her creations prospered and stayed true to her belief of helping others by mastering healing magic. The Dark Elves were also developing their magical abilities at that time, but they focused more on their ability to protect themselves, not on helping others. They mastered powerful magics of teleportation and destruction to enable them to survive in the harsh region of Ignis, making their creator beam with pride. Ignis had faith that his creations would be the strongest on Rohan. Gail felt that way about the Giant race as well, and he watched them grow stronger and stronger with every fight. The Giants gathered together and created their giant capital city of Etton, with stonework and masonry that would impress even Gail the earth God. Everything seemed to be going well on the continent, until one day, the human king was murdered.
Kraute Del Lagos was the younger brother to the then king of Del Lagos, Ferrikhan. An arrogant man, he was jealous of his brother becoming the king over him due to his age. Kraute felt like he could lead the humans to greatness, while his brother merely led them to mediocrity. This all changed when Kraute was approached by the prophet Hailok, King Ferrikhan's second in command. A mysterious man, he spoke to Kraute of a future where he was king and ruler of the humans, not Ferrikhan. Kraute, entranced by his stories, began to follow and listen to Haliok almost exclusively. Haliok took Kraute's frustration and rage at his older brother and channeled it into training him in his exotic and dangerous fighting style. Poisons, traps, surprise attacks and more dishonest techniques that were foreign to humans at the time were all shown to Kraute, his ambition for power blinding him to the cruelty of his lessons. When Haliok felt Kraute was ready, he told him of the visions he saw; for humans to survive in Rohan, they would need a stronger leader then Ferrikhan, they would need Kraute. In cold blood, Kraute murdered his brother Ferrikhan and took on the mantle of leadership of the humans. Kraute never realize that this was Haliok's intention all along.
During this entire time, the lesser gods watched with worry that the great god Ohn was not recovering during his period of rest. Having exhausted most of his power in creating not only Rohan, but the dragons guarding it, the lesser gods were afraid that Ohn would eventually pass away. Roha, having just watched the internal war happen amongst the humans, knew that they would need Ohn's guidance and help in managing the world of Rohan. His suggestion to the other gods was the one that would change the world of Rohan forever; to restore power to Ohn, they would need to return the energy that he spent back to him. They deliberated and discussed this for quite some time, but eventually his reasoning made sense. They could not destroy Rohan, as their creations lived there. The dragons however, could be destroyed, and if they no longer lived, the energy expended to create them would return back to Ohn. The lesser gods banded together and began killing the dragons one by one. The dragons, nearly godlike in power themselves, fought back against the lesser gods, but with numbers on their sides, the gods won in their battles, and eventually, only one dragon was left alive. Armenes, knowing the fate of the other dragons, escaped into the northern most part of the Rohan continent after a fierce battle with the lesser gods and gathered all of his energy into one last act. Expending all of his life force, Armenes created the draconic race of the Dekans. With the last of the dragons dead, Roha rushed to the side of his father Ohn with the other lesser gods and awaited his revival.
With the loss of the guardian dragons of Rohan, the sentient races of Rohan could finally explore the surrounding areas of their home regions. The humans and the Elves met rather quickly, with their regions very close to each other, and immediately established healthy trade relations. The Dekans, bitter towards the god created races, expanded their areas only to find the hidden Dhan. The Dhan, eager to enact their vengeance on the world of Rohan, entered battle with them and began their decade long war with each other. The giants, eager to find worthy challenges in battle, explored their frozen north, while the Dark Elves, interested only in developing their strength, focused on building their fortress and mastering their magical abilities. During this period the Half-Elves were created by Human and Elf comingling, however, the Half-Elves were so different from their parent races that they eventually broke off to form their own capital in Morrisen. The world of Rohan was flourishing and growing, full of life and energy. The same could not be said for Ohn. The lesser gods believed that Ohn would have recovered from the release of energy that came from the deaths of the dragons, but he was still unresponsive. Edoneh continued to watch over and care for Ohn, claiming that he needed more time to rest, but Roha was furious. He resented the races that they had created for Rohan, blaming them as the reason that the father god was unresponsive. Again, Roha gathered his brothers and sisters for another meeting. He reasoned with them, claiming that they too, would eventually fall into a deep sleep, if they did not restore Ohn's consciousness. Fearful of their own mortality for the first time, the gods came to an agreement; the races of Rohan needed to be wiped out.
When the first monsters began appearing on Rohan, their appearances were few and scattered. Various races reported being attacked by previously never before seen creatures, lizards who walked on their hind legs and wielded weapons on metal, giant muscle bound brutes whose skin was green, and many more. The stories were considered rumors and happenstance for quite some time, until people noticed these occurrences happening more and more frequently. The Elves were the first race caught off guard by the first massive monster attack. Emerging from the ocean surrounding their capital, they were caught off guard by waves of several sinister snake creatures. Barely escaping with their lives, the Elves retreated from the onslaught and knew; there were forces on Rohan now interested in their destruction. Speaking with their Human allies, the Elves warned them that the gods were now angry at the mortal races, and that they would need to prepare for the worst. Luckily for the humans, they had been preparing for quite some time.
During their period of expansion, the humans encountered many of Rohan's sentient races with offers of peace and trade negotiations. Their first and most successful meeting was with the race of Elves, however their meetings with the other races did not go so well. The Dekans were scornful to the races of Rohan created by the lesser gods that killed their progenitor, the Giants viewed the humans as little fools who believed in imaginary gods, while the Dark Elves ignored the requests for peace from the humans entirely. It was during this time that the then king of the humans, Gratt Del Lagos, realized that peace was not going to be achievable for the human race for quite some time. He went to the region Shielnyth and began building the largest fortress on Rohan. It took many years, but eventually Gratt Fortress was finished. Enormous and impenetrable, the humans would be ready to defend themselves against the more aggressive races of Rohan if war became the only option. When the Elf Queen came to the humans to warn them of the monsters attack, the humans were already ready for the war that was coming. The paladins were proud and many surrounding the majestic walls of Gratt, with the chivalrous Knight Templar Captain Edwin leading the guard. A hero known for slaying hordes of monsters, he was tasked with the relocation of the Human race to the Gratt Fortress, a place where they would be safe from all but the strongest monster invasions.
Edwin was a devout follower of Roha, and after his final inspection of the Gratt Fortress, he prayed for guidance from his god. He asked for the strength to lead his people through these difficult times, and for a safe and blessed journey. Edwin was shocked when Roha appeared before him in his glorious splendor. Kneeling before his god, he genuflected upon him and thanked him for his protection throughout his many battles. Roha however, disgusted by the creatures he blamed for the condition of his weakened father, was not moved by his prayers. Roha began to use his godlike powers to possess the guards of Gratt fortress, transforming them into horrible and twisted versions of themselves. Edwin, in shock, pleaded with the god Roha with no response. Being one of the few who were able to resist the god's possession, Edwin escaped the fortress as quickly as he could. Rushing back to the human capital of Einhoren, he came back with terrible news; the gods were the reason behind the monster attacks. Rhit Del Lagos, the king of Einhoren and Rima Regenon, the queen of the Elves, were shocked. With their back up plan destroyed, they had no idea what to do. The Humans once again reached out to the other races of Rohan asking for their help against the united strength of the gods and once again were met with rejection. The Dekans and Dhans went from being bitter enemies to close rivals, both hated the other races of Rohan, while the Dark Elves and the Giants had actually formed their own secret alliance to destroy the "weaker" races of Rohan. Surprisingly, the Half-Elves decided to remain neutral in the war, and rejected the chance to join the Humans and Elves. With their close ties to nature, they knew that another race was soon going to join the many already residing on Rohan.
Edoneh had spent many years watching over her partner Ohn with little to no response. She had watched the mortal races grow from scattered settlements throughout the land into enormous capital cities bustling with life. As she watched her children struggle to bring life back into Ohn, she too was torn between the best ways to handle the situation. Part of her wished that the races would work together, to live in harmony with the world as Ohn had originally intended. Another part of her did blame the mortals for his condition, feeling that he might have expended too much of his energy in the creation of the world and its protectors. She was conflicted between these two opposing viewpoints as she created her race in the land of Rohan; the Trinity. Beautiful creatures created in her image, they were both similar and vastly different. Not able to decide which path was truly better, she created her race with the capacity to choose which path they felt was right. Was peace the answer to the catastrophes in Rohan, or was complete destruction the path?
The land of Rohan has changed dramatically from the way it once was. Created as a world meant for races to cohabitate in peace, it has turned into a land of war and carnage. As a member of one of the races of Rohan, will you be able to save the world from the wrath of the gods that created you, or will you merely expedite the destruction of the world? The choice is yours!
